What Restrictions Are Being Lifted at the Southern Border?

Before the transition of administrations, we expected there would be some changes to the "Remain in Mexico" policy that would affect asylum seekers. Now we're seeing reports that the reversal of the policy means some asylum seekers who have pending cases in immigration courts are now able to enter the U.S.

The reopening of our asylum-seeking process is slowly underway. We will learn more in the coming days and weeks.

We knew this would be happening and we know that the fears of not knowing what these changes mean and how they will play out in the midst of a pandemic are real. We believe we don't have to be afraid. In early January, we spoke with Matthew Soerens, the U.S. Director of Church Mobilization for World Relief, our partner and the humanitarian arm of the National Association of Evangelicals.

We talked about the confusion surrounding "Catch and Release" policies versus the "Remain in Mexico" policy and what the asylum-seeking process really looks like. We want to revisit this conversation, which you can watch on our IGTV channel, to help us best understand what's best happening and how we can engage.
