Resources for Group Hosts

Commonly Asked Questions

Who are Women of Welcome Bible study groups for?

Our studies are for Christian women of all walks of life who want to know more about God’s heart for vulnerable immigrants and refugees. We look at the whole of scripture to best understand Christ-like welcome toward these vulnerable populations.

What is the vision of Women of Welcome Bible study groups?

Together, we want to be more like Christ in his love and welcome toward others. In this community, we are diving deep into the whole of scripture to better understand His heart for immigrants and refugees. Many people see these populations and their migration to our country as a political issue, but we believe it’s deeply biblical as well. These group studies are meant to examine what God has to say about these issues -and the fears that inevitably surround them- equipping women to enter into these conversations and national narratives from a biblical perspective. We are dedicated to reading scripture, praying, and learning together. These groups are not designed or intended to be politically partisan in any way.

Best Practices for Groups

We hope these groups are safe and welcoming spaces for learning and growing alongside other women. We have a few guidelines that are helpful in cultivating this welcoming environment:

Listen First – Group members have unique experiences, backgrounds, political affiliations, and Christian traditions. Always assume the best intentions in others and listen to find common ground.

Respect One Another – Constructive disagreement is acceptable but no one should feel judged for their point of view. Respect people’s journeys and trust the Holy Spirit to lead them into all truth in His timing. Feel free to offer a different perspective, but do so in humility and love.

Remain Nonpartisan – Discussing immigration necessitates discussing policies and practices, since these things affect immigrants. However, we do not promote or insult/demean political parties or their members/candidates. Everyone who wants to learn more about God’s heart for the sojourner should feel welcome, regardless of their political affiliation.

Maintain Privacy – In order to create an environment that is safe for open and honest participation, trust is non-negotiable. Members should feel confident that nothing they share will be repeated outside of the group without their permission.

We ask that all group hosts and members acknowledge that they will abide by these guidelines when they sign up.
