A Chilling Wakeup Call
On a recent episode of the Worthy podcast, Bri Stensrud sat down with co-host Elyse Fitzpatrick to discuss what’s happening at the intersection of faith and immigration—and why Christians must be paying attention.
What they talked about left us deeply disturbed—and also deeply convicted.
“The tactics that are being employed are not about deterrence or justice or due process,” Bri shared. “They are about cruelty. They are about power.”
In this episode, Bri shares what she’s learned about current immigration enforcement—what’s happening under the radar, what it means for immigrant families, and what Scripture calls us to do about it.
Here are just a few takeaways that should alarm us all:
Roughly 94% of those being arrested in the U.S. for immigration enforcement have no violent criminal record.
65% of them have no criminal convictions at all.
71% of those being deported have no criminal record whatsoever.
In some cases, people with legal status are being targeted, detained, and even deported.
These aren’t just statistics. They’re stories. They’re parents and pastors, students and neighbors.
“This is not about partisanship,” Bri said. “This is about people.”
Scripture tells us to care for the foreigner, to visit those in prison, and to stand with the vulnerable. Yet our current system is sweeping people up with little transparency or recourse. Entire families are being separated—sometimes permanently.
“Even if you didn’t vote for this, it’s happening in your name,” Bri said. “And the Church cannot be silent.”
